Our 30th Annual Geosciences Student Research Symposium!
Geosciences Student Research Symposium (GSRS) is a long-standing tradition in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech. This event spans two days of student research presentations, including both graduate and undergraduate students. GSRS provides students a platform to communicate their research across the far-reaching disciplines of our department. This promotes student growth as scientists in a collegial environment.
GSRS is entirely student-led. Fundraising and logistics are organized by a committee of graduate students. In addition to developing communication skills, event preparation fosters leadership, mentorship, and team-building experiences.
The pre-GSRS Workshop Series provides tutorials, led by graduate student and faculty volunteers, on how to navigate professional conferences. Topics range from abstract writing to poster formatting. All students are encouraged to attend, especially undergraduates tackling a presentation for the first time. The pre-GSRS Workshop Series delivers skills to our students that they can apply to GSRS and carry with them for years to come.
GSRS closes with the ever-popular banquet on Friday evening. This gathering celebrates another successful GSRS. Here, awards are presented to outstanding student presenters. We invite and encourage all who can attend to join us for this annual rendezvous of alumni, faculty, students, and friends of Geosciences.
